Lunching at Launay's

After segwaying, we were peckish, all that forest air and energy burned makes a girl hungry! We headed to the little village of Edwinstowe, not far from the Go Ape! site for a spot of lunch. Edwinstowe is home to two lovely restaurants - Forest Lodge (I used to work here for a summer a few years back) and Launay's. Forest Lodge is more of a pub-style restaurant which is a favourite of the locals, while Launay's is a little more upmarket in feel and menu-style.

We opted for Launay's as we hadn't been for a while - it's a lovely little restaurant with a relaxed feel to it; light and airy in decor and set in a conservatory style building. The staff are always wonderfully polite and helpful so it's a really nice place to venture whether dining there for an occasion or just passing by for a light lunch.

We were shown to our table by the window and left to look at the menu.

I want a chandelier like this one day!

They even have a lovely outdoor area to enjoy the lovely weather.
On this day, unfortunately, it wasn't very warm!

We decided on a starter and a main each - 2 courses was £12 which is a bargain for lunch and also for the quality of food I know Launay's offer.

Dad decided on smoked salmon and capers...

And I had toasted goats cheese with pesto on a bed of leaves.

For my main I had the chicken Caesar salad (which Mum also had for her starter)

Mum opted for moules frites in a white wine sauce with crusty bread.

And Dad embraced his Northern roots with a steak and ale pie with veggies and mash.
Which was really nicely presented - I love the pan of vegetables!

All in all, the meal was really nice. My salad had a little too much dressing but other than that - it was perfect for a light lunch time meal.

Launay's is really popular as the little village of Edwinstowe is famous for the Major Oak, which was 'apparently' Robin Hood's shelter. I live really close to Sherwood Forest which gives Nottinghamshire it's title of 'Robin Hood County' - every summer a ridiculous amount of tourists come here for this. So if you are ever in the area, visit Launay's for lunch or for dinner; their evening menu is evening better than their lunch menu!

Visit their website, find them on Facebook and Twitter to check out their events!
